Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Roku's summer internship program is built on equitability, supporting students from all racial and socio-economic backgrounds. As a school-agnostic internship program, Roku welcomes interns representing over 70 different schools. DE&I is woven into its program, starting before interns even step foot inside the company. In early spring, Roku kicks off its intern welcome events with a DE&I chat featuring its VP of Global Talent Management & Inclusion. Upon joining, interns are quickly introduced to the company's DE&I team during orientation and are exposed to ERGs, DE&I workshops, and summer events. Roku partners with its Inclusion Strategy team to host intern-focused programming, including a fireside chat and a microaggression workshop.

Impactful Internship Program

The 12-week summer internship program at Roku aims to connect, support, and foster community among interns within 10 Roku offices. As part of the program, interns are provided with meaningful, impactful projects that directly translate to the work they would do in a full-time role at the company. From the start, interns are provided with an Intern User Guide to help them navigate their internship, including helpful information for structuring 1-on-1 meetings with their manager, staying on track with their project, and obtaining the feedback they need to be successful. With the internship program built on three pillars, interns experience programming focused on their intern community, the greater Roku community, and learning and development. Interns also love the month of July — Roku Intern Month — staked out by themed weeks that include personal and professional development week, community and inclusion week, leadership week, and Roku intern week.

Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent

Roku recognizes that entry-level hires have unique needs and require specific support from the organization. As part of its retention strategy, Roku provides mentorship opportunities that are two-fold. New college grads volunteer as part of its Buddy Program, where they are matched with a group of former interns, as well as seasoned Roku employees. This program aims to foster community, connection, and provide mentorship focused on career-related topics, including communication, healthy work habits, self-development at work, and more.
