Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment
The Talent Engagement and Sourcing team at NiSource has done a large scale of work updating the program to make it great. NiSource had 100% diversity of slate this year for candidate interviews and the largest and most diverse class to date. The team is working hard both on campus and hosting virtual events to get the word out to students about their opportunities.
Innovative Use of Technology
The team is using technology in every step of the way to make it a better candidate experience and onboarding experience for our interns. NiSource is utilizing Handshake and other platforms to get the word out to possible candidates for internship roles, reaching out to them in the way that is easiest for them to apply. NiSource also has technology in the application process as well as part of their interview process to cut back on turn around time. Once an intern has interviewed and accepted an offer the team also hosts virtual calls with them to give them more information about what they can expect from the program over the summer, and introduce them to their team so that they feel comfortable coming in on their first day to some familiar faces. The use of technology and the changes the team has made to the process has helped NiSource gain great interns and gives them a fantastic experience.
Impactful Internship Program
NiSource empowers interns in many ways once they join the program. The team starts off by having meet and greets with their leaders and team members to make them feel comfortable. The team then brings them through the process of what they can expect over the summer as well as set clear goals and expectations for them. Throughout the summer the team hosts bi-weekly touch base calls to check in on how they are feeling to see if NiSource can help them in any way. The team also hosts Executive Speaker Series where they get a chance to hear a panel of Executives talk about topics related to career growth and have a chance to ask them questions. On top of this, NiSource also hosts sessions where they can learn skills to help in their career growth outside of the job they are doing for the company. Lastly, they are given a capstone project that they work on throughout the entire summer and at the end they present this to not only their leader and their team but all other leaders in the departments and the executive members in their area.
