The Highlights of NFI Industries' Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
In an ever changing environment, NFI has approached early recruiting in a variety of ways. The team has a variety of virtual events for students to attend which pulls in students from across the country. The team has also developed key partnerships with specific colleges that they leverage more in-person interactions such as field trips to NFI's locations followed by on-site interviews immediately after for interested students. There are a variety of ways for students to get engaged with the organization and see where they can build a successful, long term career.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The talent pipeline team hosts a variety of Info Sessions to kick off the recruiting process which allows for students to not only learn more about NFI, but gain valuable skills that will help them throughout the recruiting process. Throughout the recruiting process, NFI also likes to highlight past successful hires and why they were successful which allows candidates insight on how to grow a career at NFI.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
NFI not only partners with RippleMatch to expand their outreach to diverse entry level talent, but they partner with high schools across the country to engage students in Co-Op Opportunities as early as possible. NFI sponsors 4 high school students a year at a low-income charter school in Philadelphia each year. They not only have access to a great education, but get to learn professional skills by observing and working in the NFI office once a week.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
NFI's internship provides the perfect combination of real world, hands-on experience combined with professional development and networking opportunities. Interns are encouraged to voice their opinion about potential project ideas and where they want to steer their development. Interns also take on projects that have lasting impacts and provide solutions to the business.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
NFI has a variety of entry level positions through the Trainee Program for the Distribution and Transportation Businesses as well as a trainee program designed for Sales, IT, and Engineering graduates. Each of these structured programs gives hires hands-on experience and exposure to a variety of business areas and has structured professional development weaved throughout. For the Distribution and Transportation Trainee positions, NFI is preparing them for leadership roles that will be responsible for a team of up to 20 upon completion. The team has them shadow a several leaders to really observe and start to identify their own personal leadership style. The IT and Engineering trainee program allows hires to rotate among the different technical departments so they can see how everything is connected in the end.
