Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring

New Relic is passionate about having a diverse set of voices contributing to the company — and it believes one of the best ways to accomplish that is hiring from a diverse pool of early talent. Not only does the company have a top-ranked internship program for current undergraduates, New Relic also has a successful incubator for early career software developers called Ignite, which seeks to hire talent from a variety of backgrounds such as traditional universities, bootcamps, and self-taught coders. New Relic is proud of its accomplishments with its current programs, and is excited to always be innovating for the best experience possible for students. New Relic encourages and supports all early career talent to develop their skills so they can have a fulfilling career.

Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment

New Relic’s Early Careers team redesigned their recruitment strategy for the 2022-2023 academic year from the ground up to be more inclusive and intentional with the talent it pursues. The team revisited its core schools to ensure its top-of-funnel talent pool includes a diverse set of candidates. The team adopted a multidimensional approach to recruiting that includes both in-person and virtual visits to schools, career centers, and student organizations with a robust brand awareness campaign. Once a role opens, the team follows an intentional sourcing strategy to bring opportunities to underrepresented groups. During the interview process, the team creates a great candidate experience by being transparent and ensuring clear communication between recruiters and candidates.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are top of mind for New Relic’s Early Careers team, and are a central element of the team’s guiding vision and mission. During the team’s annual planning session, the team prioritized schools with diverse student populations for the upcoming recruitment year, including building long-term relationships with specific HBCUs. In addition to strategically sourcing underrepresented talent, the team partners with members of New Relic’s ERGs for recruiting events. Once interns are hired, the team prioritizes networking sessions for them with the ERGs. New Relic is proud to share that of the interns hired for full-time positions, the majority are people of color and women; and of its software engineer development program, 70% of hires are women and 62% are people of color.

Impactful Internship Program

At New Relic, all interns are valued like every other Relic at the company. The Early Careers team selects managers to work with that align with the team’s vision of providing impactful and meaningful experiences to each intern. Interns have dedicated time to volunteer, in line with the company’s vision for social impact, and they work on projects with real-world impact. For example, this past summer interns analyzed customer data to produce usage reports, worked on live code to help customers navigate their data on our platform, and revamped New Relic’s Allyship workshop for all employees. In addition, New Relic has a formalized mentorship program for interns to guide them and provide career advice and feedback throughout the internship. New Relic’s executive team hosts fireside chats with the interns so they can have dedicated face time for a casual Q&A with the company’s CEO and other leaders.
