Navistar believes that it's essential to continue to invest in its new college graduate and intern programs because it's crucial to build an innovative and collaborative workforce. Navistar continues to expand its outreach to students across the country in hopes that adding new voices, new ideas, and fresh talent will allow Navistar to keep driving toward a future that includes products that reflect the company's values and the values of its employees. Navistar is excited to deliver challenging projects, community & volunteer opportunities, and team-building as it helps these new employees dive into an exciting career alongside other interns and recent graduates.

Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment

Navistar’s university team and its partners do an amazing job of providing a candidate experience that works to connect talent to internal communities so they can better understand how they could build a career at Navistar. The team attends a number of career fairs with a variety of schools, providing coaching, info sessions, and helping students engage with its hiring process. The team also gives selected candidates insight into Navistar’s interview event, which includes a "dinner" where they could meet members of the interview teams in advance of their interviews as well as a presentation that provides a technology roadmap for the company and information about the cities where it’s hiring. The interview day includes opportunities for candidates to talk with multiple teams as well as roundtable discussions with ERG and early career employees who have recently joined the company.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Navistar’s campus recruitment team feels strongly that offering support for early career talent — such as new college grads and internship seekers — is the closest it can come to a level playing field. Navistar believes it is imperative to be deliberate in its recruiting to ensure that it is creating a deep and diverse pipeline with its internship program to provide a diversity of candidates with the experience and hands-on knowledge to be successful when they graduate — either with Navistar or at another company. Navistar formed a cross-functional team across the organization to ensure that it is listening to many voices as it identifies and builds partnerships with HBCUs & HSIs, as well as provides support and builds relationships with local, regional, and national chapters of organizations like NSBE, SHPE, & SWE. Navistar provides interns and new college grads mentors to help them navigate their careers, and works to encourage all employees to support and/or join employee resource groups so they can build a network of support.

Impactful Internship Program

Navistar provides a robust internship experience offering full-time, paid, summer internships across the organization. While at Navistar, interns can be in roles that are hybrid or fully in-person, allowing them to gain real world experience while building a network of mentors, coaches, and peer support. Navistar’s intern program provides students the chance to deliver a project from start to finish, and an opportunity to present results to their peers and company leaders. Interns are also provided with a series of events including lunch & learns, DE&I events, and the opportunity to help plan and/or participate in ERG events and field trips and tours of other locations. Navistar also helps its interns form their own committee where they can drive events and topics that are important to them. Navistar interns always look forward to its “Intern Ride & Drive” where they visit the company’s Proving Grounds and experience its products first-hand driving its oval track and durability course.

Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent

Navistar values its new college graduate and rotational programs, and strives to support early career employees as they begin their careers. The university team provides a comprehensive onboarding program intended to help new hires meet other early career employees and to help provide them the tools to be successful in their first months. One of the prime tools used is the collaboration with the Navistar Young Professionals (NYP) ERG. Navistar utilizes NYP to help integrate new employees into the company while introducing them to executives and company leaders through lunch & learns, mentors, social and community building through volunteer opportunities and sports leagues. The team works to ensure that each new college graduate is welcomed to their new team and provided the training and coaching needed to be successful in the first step of their careers.
