The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
MetLife was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
The MetLife Technical University Program (MTU) was initially started in 2014 as a way to rejuvenate teams by providing new insights from early-in-career professionals looking to start their careers. Since then, several hundred professionals have completed the Internship and/or Professional Programs and have gone on to promotions within the company. Their energy and constant growth within the journey of learning has ensured that customers are experiencing streamlined ways to interact with the company. MetLife has been recognized by Campus Forward Awards two years running for its exceptional internship program.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
The University Recruiting Team is committed to utilizing all of the different recruiting tools at its disposal in an effort to reach students from all over the United States. The pandemic led the team to increase its digital strategy, but through that it was introduced to more universities and more students that were curious about what MetLife had to offer. Metlife continues to nurture partnerships at universities that are closer geographically to its main hiring offices. All of these tools have continued to develop a diverse pipeline of candidate each year.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
While the team does maintain several partnerships with HBCU and HSI institutions through either sponsorships or direct interaction with students, it has been the digital approach that has led the team to find ways to locate diverse students all over the United States. The team's DEI initiatives expand even beyond traditional HBCU and HSI institutions, and the team will continue to engage underrepresented populations within technology.
Impactful Internship Program
Through the MetLife Technical University (MTU) Summer Internship Program, interns have the opportunity to contribute to projects that will have an impact on MetLife customers. This makes up the bulk of their focus during the 10-weeks. In addition, interns are put in groups of 5 or 6 to work on an Innovation Challenge Project that addresses a larger need/larger focus within MetLife. Beyond that, interns are encouraged to seek out learning opportunities through ILT or digital online training to supplement skills learned in the classroom. Finally, the mentorship aspect of the summer ensures that interns and early-in-career professionals are connecting with full-time employees that can help guide their early path through MetLife.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
MetLife Technical University believes in providing a strong start for new professionals through a weeklong orientation program. This program introduces new hires to networking opportunities, the chance to hear from Senior Leadership, and the opportunity to hear about various Affinity Groups at MetLife. It's through these connections, as well as team mentorship, that will connect them to the company and will help them feel connected to MetLife. Through Metlife’s Professional Program, new hires are set up with a learning map designed specifically for their new roles.
