The Pathfinder Award honors the individuals or teams who are boldly expanding the horizon of what’s possible for early career talent. This award recognizes initiatives that help bridge the awareness gap—connecting Gen Z with opportunities they may not have known existed, or may not have realized they were qualified to pursue. Whether through innovative outreach, inclusive programs, or reimagined career pathways, Pathfinder Award recipients are the changemakers ensuring that potential isn’t left on the table simply because someone didn’t know where to look.
The Initiative: Why this Winning Team Stands Out
To be considered for the Pathfinder Award, teams had to describe a standout initiative that helped Gen Z candidates discover what’s possible at their companies. By sharing the goals, execution, and outcomes of their efforts, applicants demonstrated how they’re driving awareness and access to under-the-radar opportunities.
Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Internship Program
“The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) internship program is a 10-week, U.S.-based summer internship program focused on reaching high school seniors and first-year college students at a critical time in their academic decision-making process. Medtronic’s WISE initiative aims to create an inclusive culture where future scientists and engineers are inspired to thrive and reach their full potential. The internship program is designed to empower the next generation of STEM students by providing hands-on experiences, impactful projects, strong mentorship and professional development opportunities. In addition to gaining technical skills, interns are also provided opportunities to develop soft skills such as public speaking and confidence building. While the program seeks to address the gender gap in STEM, the program is open to all who meet the basic requirements and are passionate about advancing under-represented students in STEM studies. This summer, the Medtronic WISE internship program is welcoming 97 interns across 7 sites where they will have the opportunity to work on a real-world medical device project and be able to showcase and present their work at the end of the summer to Medtronic leaders and employees across the organization. Upon completion of the program, intern managers and mentors are encouraged to provide support and guidance throughout the students’ academic career and Medtronic is committed to retaining students as returning interns for subsequent summers and eventually convert them to full-time employees upon graduation.”
