The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Johnson Matthey was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Standout Candidate Experience
Johnson Matthey knows that early career talent is the key innovation – diverse opinions and fresh ideas are needed to catalyze the net zero transition. This is why they ensure early career candidates are comfortable entering the recruitment process. This includes resume/CV writing webinars open to all, university outreach, and even hosting a dinner before rotational program assessment centers for candidates to meet JM leaders. Additionally, the early careers team is always pleased to provide specific feedback to candidates who participate in rotational program assessments in recognition of the their dedication to the process and to have something to take forward regardless of the offer outcome.
Impactful Internship Program
The Johnson Matthey Internship Program has a clear goal for interns: make a business impact while learning key skills to take to back to academia or into industry. Interns undertake real projects that align to the overall company strategy and are equipped with goals and objectives created in collaboration with their line manager. Those on the program also participate in an in-person induction and bi-weekly lunch and learns to discuss learning topics voted on by their entire cohort. Once their summer has come to an end, interns present their work to their business and receive a final performance evaluation from their manager for which they have the potential to receive a bonus. To date based on exit interview feedback, 100% of interns would recommend the program to others and would consider returning to JM upon graduation.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Johnson Matthey has a team dedicated to the success of early career employees. Individuals on leadership or business rotational programs are provided significant support in starting their careers including mentorships, tailored development training, and the opportunity to travel domestically and internationally to learn the business and find their passion. JM is also proud to introduce Early Careers Academies in 2024 for direct entry employees to showcase their talent, meet senior leaders, and participate in key development. These efforts provide the tools for employees to feel confident in driving their careers long-term at JM.
