The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
JLL was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
JLL knows that it cannot achieve its goal of ‘creating a better world of work’ without creating opportunities for JLL’s early career talent to grow and flourish. JLL is often described as the ‘best place you have never heard of’ because the company offers early career opportunities for every skillset. From brokerage to finance and tech to project management, JLL offers a wide array of opportunities for anyone to kick-start their career. JLL has also invested heavily with DEI partnerships such as the HBCU Business Dean Roundtable, Project Destined, and HACU (to name a few), and offers specific opportunities for students from HBCUs and HSIs to take advantage.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
Outside of the financial investments of JLL’s DEI partnerships, JLL has two marquee partnerships to build a robust early career pipeline. JLL Pathways, a two-day, in-person case competition for marketing and tech roles is open to students from HACU and HBCU schools and provides in-depth information about Commercial Real Estate and JLL. After networking and learning sessions, students participate in a case competition with real executives at the firm. Successful participants are awarded a scholarship AND an opportunity to join JLL for a summer internship. JLL also has a heavy partnership with Project Destined, and sponsors a number of PD “Teams” throughout the year, which gives underrepresented students real-world simulations in Commercial Real Estate. Through this partnership, JLL identifies highly-qualified students and build opportunities for PD students to join JLL for the summer and beyond.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
JLL’s early career team ensures candidates continue to feel the firm’s commitment to diversity throughout the recruiting process. In order to interview for internships, leaders are asked to complete an unconscious bias training and are asked to share their plans to support underrepresented students through the interview process. This includes a toolkit to think about how candidates may show up (physical and mental presence), and provides suggestions on how to encourage candidates to share experiences related to their internship preference. Additionally, the early careers team partners with each hiring leader to ensure the interview panels/process are representative of JLL’s diversity ,and highlight how JLL seeks to retain underrepresented talent.
Impactful Internship Program
With over 500 internships, JLL offers internships for every skill interest and career aspiration! Each of JLL’s internships includes opportunities for interns to solve real-world problems and network with leaders and peers across the organization. No matter the functional area, JLL interns are often exposed to all JLL’s business lines (Brokerage, Tech, Financing, Property Management, etc.) and have taken the opportunity to build their own network of peers. JLL’s leaders continually make time to help early career talent find their success at JLL, and showcase what they have learned and how they can make an impact at JLL. This experience is essential to JLL’s 95%+ satisfaction and NPS rate for interns and continuous championing on students’ campuses when they finish their summer at JLL.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Entry-Level hires at JLL participate in a number of targeted programs based on business lines. One of the newest and most exciting opportunities is JLLU, which is for entry-level analyst talent within JLL Brokerage. All entry-level hires start on three distinct days throughout the calendar year and are invited to a week-long conference with other peers to learn about JLL and kick-start their career. JLLU participants meet with senior leaders in the business, and network together to learn the basics of JLL and improve their own offices and clients. After the week-long program, JLLU participants then continue on an at-home program, with specific engagements designed for them each week until graduation at the end of the program. JLL’s first cohort of JLLU students kicked off in September 2022, and there is lots of excitement building for the next cohort and the scalability of this program for other business lines.
