“Jaylyn Jones has redefined how companies and career programs engage with Gen Z candidates by centering access, representation, and transparency in every aspect of her work. Her approach blends innovation with intentionality, ensuring that early talent, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds, get the support they need to thrive in today’s hiring landscape.
At Duolingo, Jaylyn saw a gap in the support offered to participants in the DET Access Scholars Program, a scholarship for refugee students who have taken the Duolingo English Test. While the program provided strong guidance on college admissions and financial aid, students lacked the professional development needed to succeed in competitive internship application processes. Jaylyn took the lead in addressing this gap by designing a half-day program focused on networking, resume development, and internship readiness. Her initiative ensured that refugee scholars not only had access to education but also had a real shot at meaningful early career opportunities.
Jaylyn's impact extends beyond her day job. Through her role as a career coach with CodePath, she supports underrepresented students in tech by providing one-on-one coaching and delivering career workshops that are consistently among the highest rated in the organization. CodePath’s mission is to increase diversity in tech by equipping college students with industry-relevant skills and connections, and Jaylyn brings that mission to life by helping students navigate everything from technical interviews to personal branding with confidence.
Her commitment to access is further demonstrated through her partnership with Fide, where she shows up daily in the “Ask a Recruiter Anything” channel. She gives students direct, no-cost access to recruiter insights, hosts live sessions, and offers resume reviews that reach hundreds of early talent candidates. By eliminating the gatekeeping often found in recruiting, Jaylyn has created a model for what modern, equity-centered recruiting should look like.
She also volunteers with organizations like Black Girls Code and Rewriting the Code to expand representation for women in tech. Across every platform and partnership, Jaylyn challenges outdated recruiting norms and creates spaces where Gen Z candidates, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, can be seen, supported, and successful.”
