Thus, the University Hiring Program is a valuable hiring channel that strives to continue recruiting and nurturing promising students from all walks of life to contribute to their full potential, be accepted for who they are, and apply their talents to support their mission.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
Intuitive believes in seeking the different to propel innovation and creativity forward. The University Hiring Programs team aims for a school-agnostic approach in which they advertise to and consider highly-skilled students from all universities and programs nationwide. In the 2022 recruiting season alone, the team sent over 41,000 unique messages to advertise open positions, yielding 80 colleges and universities represented in its intern class. Intuitive’s hiring model focuses on character, capacity, energy, and experience — in that order. Through the interview process, students have the opportunity to demonstrate their capacity to learn and grow, as well as their willingness and excitement to put their capabilities to work. Through fair and inclusive recruiting practices, the program infuses diversity of thoughts and backgrounds into the company as it develops high-capacity future employees.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
The University Hiring Programs team is passionate about rolling out initiatives to tap into underrepresented talent pools. Information is key, which is why the team openly shares progress and areas to continuously improve people practices with top leaders in the company, who share its passion around enhancing an inclusive culture. Those initiatives range from large-scale national conferences to smaller chapter events, to revamping its relocation and housing offerings so every student can find affordable and safe housing regardless of their financial circumstances. As an element of the summer intern program, the team partners with the company’s ERGs for an event focused on networking and support as the interns integrate into the company.
Impactful Internship Program
Intuitive’s summer intern program is a balanced blend of impactful and meaningful assignments and projects that stretch an intern’s academic knowledge and skill base, coupled with social engagement and networking and educational and professional development opportunities. With a blend of fully remote interns and interns based in offices nationwide, the 2022 summer internship program focused on virtual program offerings, as well as a National Intern Week in which all interns were flown to headquarters for a week of targeted, impactful, and celebratory events. Interns had opportunities for da Vinci Test Drives, manufacturing tours, in-person interactions with head executives, and more! As part of the annual Executive Speaker Series (ESS), CEO Gary Guthart spent an hour addressing the class and answering their questions, followed by an hour with him and fellow leaders for casual networking under sunny California skies.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Intuitive actively invests in its team members to support their long-term growth so they can continue to advance the company mission and strive to achieve their highest potential. Entry-level opportunities include a Finance Development Program for emerging business talent, and a Science & Engineering Development Program for emerging technical talent — with an aim to train well-rounded individuals as they embark on their careers. These programs include extensive trainings, from Tableau and SQL training in Finance, to Design Control and Usability training in Engineering. As employees graduate from these programs, they have the exposure and direction to build an amazing career with the company.
