The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
The Highlights of Huntington National Bank's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
Huntington’s early identification program, RISE, supports freshmen and sophomores in discovering their career interests and prepares them for future internships while building a pipeline of talent into Huntington’s internship program. As students grow in their college career, the early career team engages with them through career fairs, school-agnostic information sessions, and events with student organizations on a variety of topics relevant to their development, such as personal branding and resume building. Internally, the early career team partners with Community Development, DEI, and our regional presidents to ensure no stone is left unturned in the team's efforts.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
Huntington Bank’s intern interview experience puts candidates first. Each candidate we screen has a 1:1 video call with a member of Talent Management where candidates learn about the internship program to ensure they have a realistic preview of what their summer could look like. By giving the candidate an opportunity to interview Huntington as well, their interests are prioritized and they are shown how Huntington can support them as they kickstart their careers. As the interview process continues, candidates speak with various teams in the organization to allow them to explore multiple career paths at Huntington.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Huntington Bank’s internship program is designed to bring diverse voices and fresh perspective into the organization to not only move the needle on diversity, but to integrate interns’ diverse perspectives into strategic direction and decision-making. Starting with Huntington’s early identification program, RISE, diverse candidates engage early in their college career with Huntington. Huntington has also forged partnerships with HBCUs to connect with diverse students in Huntington’s footprint. Upon joining Huntington, interns can join a number of Business Resource Groups and receive a mentor to create a lasting, supportive relationship for the future.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Huntington Bank’s internship program is differentiated by its innovative approach to collaboration, the involvement of executive leaders, and a conversion offer rate of 75 percent. Throughout the summer, interns collaborate to develop proposals on how Huntington can reinvent banking. Through this process, interns learn innovative ways of problem solving that can not only set their project apart, but can also impact the way they work, ideate, and collaborate. Interns present directly to senior and executive leaders. In addition, throughout the summer, interns connect with each executive in small pods, where questions and perspectives are exchanged.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
Huntington’s early career colleagues engage in continued career development through the Momentum program. Momentum introduces early career colleagues to the Emerging Professional BRG, includes a formal mentorship program, and eases the transition into the workforce by building connections with other colleagues. Segment-specific rotational programs, such as Tech Elevate, allow for conversion into a structured training ground to internally build top talent in highly competitive fields. As colleagues reach their stride, Huntington’s High Potential Talent Development Program, Emerge, is designed to further develop future leaders.
