The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Greystar was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Standout Candidate Experience
Setting candidates up for success is important at Greystar, and team members are excited to connect with applicants to answer questions and network. Candidates can see where they are in the interview process by checking the applicant tracking system, and the team responds to every applicant so they know when a decision is made. The Greystar Early Careers team hosts virtual office hours weekly for any applicant who wants to hear more about the company or would like to ask questions live. The hiring process is straightforward and includes a resume application, an initial virtual interview, and then a final round of interviews, either virtual or in-person, depending on the role. Greystar sees this process as a two-way street so applicants have many chances to ask questions throughout.
Impactful Internship Program
The Greystar internship program focuses on building real-world on-the-job experience for interns to help them learn, enhance skills, and figure out what they want to do. Interns receive up-front training, work closely with their manager, connect weekly with their peer mentor for career advice, and learn more than their line of business through Lunch & Learns. Greystar interns also gain exposure to senior leaders in the Executive Speaker series during which leaders share their personal career journey, insights into their line of business, strategic initiatives, and career advice. Greystar team members are especially willing to network, so interns typically rave about all the coffee chats they had during their 10 weeks.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
The Greystar Early Careers team was created to invest more resources in entry-level talent retention. The internship program and full-time rotational program allows new hires to kick off their career by providing key tools (technology overviews, organizational charts, etc.), introducing resources (mentors, etc.), and diving deep to Greystar (culture and values, Greystar business model, etc.) The annual Analyst conference brings new hires together to hear insights across Greystar and gives networking opportunities with team members globally. Greystar’s Office 360 concept also impacts retention because everyone (including leadership) works flexibly through a design philosophy giving team members the power of choice to move easily between spaces, work alongside specific coworkers, or find an isolated space to move away from distractions. Plus, Greystar team members are especially nice!
