Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment

GM’s early career talent team’s recruiting strategy focuses on investment in technology platforms to enable a school-agnostic outreach approach utilizing sourcing platforms, which is supplemented by direct campus engagement led by individual internal campus teams. Student engagements can take place virtually or in person on campus, and range from GM information sessions to resume workshops. The campus teams also partner with GM’s internal employee resource groups for recruiting efforts.GM’s inclusive culture is driven by three pillars: Our Words (what we say), Our Deeds (what we do) and Our Culture (who we are). It helps the company stay motivated to create moments every day that value backgrounds, opinions, and ideas that may be different.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

GM’s early career talent team’s recruiting strategy focuses on investment in technology platforms to enable inclusiveness. The campus teams partner with employee resources groups for recruiting efforts, and GM has also attended several DE&I national conferences as well. GM is a team of 173,00 people, working across 23 time zones in 5 continents and speaking 70 languages. GM has invested in and is committed to mentorship, exceptional training, and plenty of networking opportunities — offering a variety of resources for team members to apply their skills and passion. GM offers resources to help employees reach their full potential, including upskilling and training opportunities, internal learning resources, college tuition assistance, technical education programs, the Take2 program, connection to global peers and mentors, and other professional development opportunities.

Impactful Internship Program

GM’s internship program lasts 10-12 weeks, and is a great way for students to apply theirskills, gain experience, and unlock their professional potential. In addition to the hands-on work experience they’ll get day-to-day, GM provides professional development programming, networking opportunities with GM leaders, and more. The majority of GM’s functions offer internship opportunities. Throughout the summer, GM offers several learning and social opportunities that are all hosted virtually to ensure equity in experience for all of the interns. GM also has other learning events, which include a keystone program that is a 3-day, 90-minute session/day event focusing on embracing company culture and DEI, and provides professional development advice from leadership and exposes GM interns to really exciting areas of the business to whet their appetite to accept full-time offers.

Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent

GM’s Early Career Talent Program is committed to cultivating future leaders. GM also provides several growth and development programs, such as a technical education program and GM tuition assistance. Furthermore, GM also provides a Degreed learning platform, which houses a robust and growing library of trainings that provides employees with access to ongoing learning resources they can use to augment and enrich their professional development. Additionally, Globesmart, which is an online resource, is designed to help employees increase their cultural agility and improve their ability to interface with colleagues and clients in different countries.
