A hybrid fall recruiting season challenged the team to juggle may different types of events in an ever-changing environment. General Mills prioritized meeting students where they were in an effort optimize flexibility and outreach. We utilized virtual platforms, video interviews, school agnostic info sessions, in-person events, panels, school ambassadors, and many more sources to diversify the way we were sharing our opportunities. Some of the best success we saw was our partnership with Employee Resource Groups. Building relationships between students and our Resource Groups showcased a differential outlook on what it’s like to work for an amazing food company while helping candidates feel informed and connected.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

The General Mills Recruiting Team truly showcases a best-in-class experience for candidates. In an incredibly competitive market, General Mills Recruiting prioritized an elevated candidate experience as well as inclusion and flexibility. This includes every point in the process from clear communication to letting candidates know their status in the most efficient ways possible. The Early Career Recruiting Team leveraged existing University relationships as well as a variety of virtual sources to reach candidates across the country. Personalized communication and authentic conversations attracted students to make the choice to start their career with General Mills.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

At General Mills, a core focus of their diverse talent strategy is not solely attracting diverse talent but how they nourish and pour into that talent once they are a part of the General Mills family. Employee Networks play a key and pivotal role in their strategy, for example, when new talent come on board, employee networks not only engage in internal mentorship opportunities with access to company leaders/sponsors, but also engage with an external partnership with The Executive Leadership Council for growth and development. The company also utilizes these opportunities to increase their involvement in the community through organizations like NSBE to help shape the futures of next generations with talent that they can identify with because General Mills understands that representation matters.
