Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring

Fisher Investments’ passion for investing in early talent stems from its core belief in training and development. Entry-level hires at Fisher Investments are hired for a career of breadth and depth, rather than hired to execute one specific job. The firm has a principal desire to enable early talent to become well-rounded professionals; this is accomplished through strategic mentorship programs, extensive training, and firm wide shadowing opportunities, which allows early talent exposure to all areas of the industry.

Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment

After experiencing proven success navigating campus recruiting amidst a pandemic, the Early Talent Recruiting Team at Fisher Investments sharpened their strategy to engage students in a hybrid on-campus/virtual environment. The team crafted a “student first” approach with campus events, virtual panels, student forums, and skills workshops to drive meaningful connections with students. The team strategically collaborated with business units and the larger Talent Acquisition group to find new ways to recruit. They diversified their approach by executing segmented digital campaigns. As a result, they met 100% of Fisher’s aggressive hiring goals and set a new standard for student engagement in person and virtually. They launched a multifaceted approach with sourcing to reach a larger pool of diverse early talent. In 2022, they significantly increased their on campus presence, which resulted in an uptick in early acceptances.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Fisher Investments is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where employees can grow, thrive, and do their best work. One of its core competencies is “Values Differences” and its Human Capital group uses it as a pillar when designing recruitment strategies. The Early Talent Team championed several initiatives in 2022, including relationships with D&I Alliances and further integration with diverse student organizations. The team also launched digital campaigns to engage students from HBCUs, AAPIs, HSIs and women’s colleges. This year, they transformed their digital approach to recruiting top diverse talent; this includes onboarding D&I recruiting platforms such as HIVE (underrepresented groups) and mGwork (LGBTQ+). Fisher continued to engage candidates through other avenues, such as their virtual Women’s Student Forum where students across the country participated in workshops and engaged with the firm’s leaders. Upon starting, Fisher employees also have the opportunity to join affinity groups and participate in D&I training.

Impactful Internship Program

At Fisher Investments, students are offered the opportunity to join as a summer intern or to work part-time in a Junior Associate role. Students are empowered to provide value in their assigned department through hands-on projects. Fisher provides interns a welcoming onboarding experience with workshops, professional development classes, D&I training, and the opportunity to engage with firm leaders. The Early Talent Team provides executive leadership networking opportunities, a virtual stock market challenge, community service opportunities, social gatherings, and dedicated mentorship. The goal of the program is to provide a meaningful experience for students and prepare them for full time opportunities at the firm.

Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent

The foundation of a fruitful and rewarding career is mentorship, training, and community. Fisher’s entry-level roles are designed for a smooth transition from college into a professional career, and this is accomplished through a strategic onboarding experience. Its award-winning training and development program welcomes new employees with a multi-day orientation and classes on firm history, industry knowledge, and role-specific intro classes. New entry-level employees are provided a mentor — this is someone who has found success in a similar role and acts as a support system. Employees are provided career coaching, promotion pathing, quarterly review/goal check-ins, and more. Nearly 90% of managers at the firm are promoted from within, so it’s critical to lay a solid foundation to build on. Fisher also has an established recognition program that honors employees’ achievements aligned to the firm’s Vision and Values.
