Elisea Barnes has primary responsibility for managing SpartanNash’s internship program of +100 interns. Her duties include ensuring the success of all aspects of the program, from recruitment and selection to program management and fostering relationships with universities. As manager of the internship program, Barnes is tasked with ensuring the recruitment process runs smoothly, providing a supportive environment for interns to learn and thrive. She manages program logistics, coordinates training and development initiatives, and serves as a liaison between interns and internal stakeholders. She’s also responsible for training and coaching company leaders and building up the internship experience beyond SpartanNash in West Michigan.
Career Highlight
"I developed a comprehensive retail operations guide tailored specifically for interns, providing them with a valuable resource to navigate their learning experience. This guide serves as a comprehensive tool for onboarding, training, and reference, ensuring interns have the necessary knowledge to excel in their roles. Additionally, I implemented a 12-week program that gives interns hands-on experience in various aspects of retail store operations management. Through collaboration with retail operations management, I designed a program guide outlining key competencies and learning objectives, giving interns depth and breadth of retail industry understanding. Further, I organized mid-program check-ins for interns to assess their progress and provide tips for increased success, fostering a supportive learning environment. Additionally, I hosted a Field Day event, combining fun activities with a charitable component, demonstrating SpartanNash's commitment to community engagement. Finally, I facilitated Capstone project presentations, giving interns the opportunity to showcase their achievements and learnings to the company’s Executive Leadership Team. This initiative provided interns with valuable exposure and recognition for their contributions, further motivating them to excel in their roles."
