Duolingo's university recruiting and programs team attracts and hires talent by employing a relationship-first model. The team has successfully recruited students from around the globe by relying on both in-person and virtual strategies that focus on bringing students and Duos (aka Duolingo employees) together. Specifically, Duolingo's team has scaled its interns as active on-campus ambassadors, hosted city-specific meetups during the summer while students are interning and conducting research, and leveraged its multi-year long relationships with diversity-focused organizations such as ColorStack and Rewriting the Code through virtual and in-person conferences.

Duolingo's recruitment and programs team focuses on setting up the candidate for success at all stages of the interview process. This is seen from the beginning of the process with explicit pay transparency, through the interview process with active communication and a wealth of prep materials, and after the interview with an invitation to visit HQ to learn more IRL before making a final decision.
