Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment
To seek prospective talent and promote careers in energy, Dominion Energy’s Talent Acquisition team engaged with more than 100 schools and partnerships. Examples range from 4-year HBCU’s such as North Carolina A&T to HSI’s like the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez to community organizations like the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Dominion Energy launched a brand new four-part webinar series, titled “Energy Boosts” to help students focus on professional development as they pursue internships. This effort complemented a robust campus career fair schedule, which included an expanded use of “spot offers” to recruit high potential students without delay.
Standout Candidate Experience
The Student Employment Team at Dominion Energy knows that every interaction with a candidate can positively or negatively affect a candidate's perception. That's why they optimize the candidate's experience by customizing job postings, providing insight on the Student Employment program with an informative career site, and focusing on building personal a connections through in-person and online interactions with hiring leaders, colleagues who once worked as interns, and more. . The Student Employment Team hosts several events throughout the year to allows students to receive personal interaction with the team to discuss the onboarding process, to remove the mystery and confusion for students who are early in their careers. The Student Employment Team cares about the overall student experience and they find creative ways to stay connected by offering drop-in hours, pulse check surveys, and much more!
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Over the years, Dominion Energy has designed and implemented a robust roadmap to transition top, diverse talent from Student to Full-time team member with the rollout of the Dominion Energy Careers in Energy Diversity Student Conference (DSC), launched in October 2019. The DCS’s focus is to recruit 125 top students to attend a three-day conference and they are guaranteed an interview for a paid summer internship. Dominion Energy also leverages the DSC students to fill more than 50% of available summer internships and provide interns with an engaging, expansive look at possible career opportunities in the energy sector, a dynamic and evolving industry. Dominion Energy is committed to converting a high percentage of interns to full-time employees upon graduation and their early talent population is more than 50% diverse. In addition to the DSC, The Dominion Energy Diversity Scholarship Program has traditionally recognized female and minority interns with a record of academic excellence. This scholarship can be used to cover education related expenses including tuition, fees, and housing. Dominion Energy’s Native Pathways internship recruitment program focuses on investing in Native Communities and increasing Native American representation within Dominion Energy.
