The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
DHL Supply Chain was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion is a key part of DHL’s strategy. The goal is to create a culture where everyone can bring their true selves to work every day – including interns and college recruits. Of the 60 target schools DHL partners with, many are diverse in nature – historically black universities, universities in rural areas and universities with large first-generation populations. The College Recruiting team works closely with student organizations like Women in Business, to help sponsor students’ professional development. During the most recent Intern Capstone Event, one of the most popular sessions hosted was a Q&A with company representatives from various Employee Resource Groups. The groups represented included Women in Supply Chain, Black Leaders and Allies, Veterans, LGBTQ+ and Working Across Generations.
Impactful Internship Program
All DHL Supply Chain interns participate in a formalized program. The goal is to enhance students’ business acumen through on-the-job training, professional development, collaboration and networking. Interns have full access to the College Recruiting team and are encouraged to give feedback about their daily work and the program. The highlight of the Intern Program is the Capstone Project and Intern Capstone event. After working on a value-add project, interns across North America come to Columbus, Ohio, for a two-day event. Interns present their Capstone Project in front of senior-level business leaders and participate in social responsibility-focused activities, network and more! During the last three years, DHL has successfully offered full-time positions to more than 80% of interns.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Those hired through the College Recruiting program are enrolled in the College Recruit Development Program. The program lasts for the first two years of their full-time employment. During this time, they receive six or more one-on-one coaching sessions with the College Recruit Development Manager and are connected with a peer that has been with DHL Supply Chain for more than two years to help them navigate being a new professional. They also attend College Recruit Training Week, which includes a leadership development curriculum specifically for individuals in the program. Additionally, they have access to classroom and eLearning trainings, career development guidance and feedback, regional networking events and monthly newsletters. Currently, the retention rate of those in the two year program is 82%.
