The Highlights of CDK Global's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
CDK Global quickly adapted to the virtual world by creating new blueprints to guarantee an in-person cultural experience for their early career talent. Sourcing for interns and entry-level hires begins with ascertaining specific colleges and universities near core company offices with strong STEM programs and diverse populations. Once institutions are highlighted, the company plans and hosts various information sessions (panels included), attends a variety of career fairs, creates social media platform campaigns, and utilized the referral program. Using these various pipelines, CDK can source and recruit top talent.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
Even prior to COVID-19, CDK Global always prioritized a high-touch candidate experience by constantly communicating with all respective parties and establishing engagement strategies but only now heavily utilizing Zoom and modernized technologies. By quickly adapting to a virtualized environment, CDK continued to ensure a personalized (virtual) experience for each and every single candidate and hiring team by providing essential resources, safe environments, and extra support. CDK Early Career Talent team and various talent partners are knowledgeable of the company culture and the great aspects it has to offer for a seamless hiring process.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
When the world shifted to a virtual world, CDK Global had to reassess recruiting strategies and take advantage of new opportunities. The new hybrid arrangement for the internship program allowed them to expand their recruiting strategies; (i.e. the virtual nature of career fairs and the program allowed us to recruit at HBCUs, areas of HACU, and all-female institutions). CDK prioritizes an environment that not only retains diverse talent but also ensures that diverse talent can thrive as an intern. This is accomplished via a mentorship program, community-building events, and partnering with organizations that encourage diversity in STEM to offer engagement opportunities for interns.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
By gathering resources and quickly adapting to new changes, CDK executed a successful virtual internship program for 136 brilliant students. By highlighting their values and culture, capturing real perspectives from real employees and employer value propositions, the Early Career Talent Team personalized each interns’ experiences and showed CDK authenticity for a standout internship program. Throughout the summer, each intern was partnered with a mentor to innovate and learn, participated in high-touch experiences with company leaders, community service organizations, virtual office hours, live work projects, in-person office visits, celebrated National Intern Day and numerous giveaways.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
CDK successfully introduced a prosperous and flavorful virtual internship program by focusing on its four values: staying curious, owning it, being open and creating possibilities. The team ensured the internship program flourished by prioritizing D&I, strengthening university partnerships, mentorship, networking opportunities, and conversion rates. At this company, interns work on live projects throughout summer as it gives them the chance to experience the life of a full-time employee at CDK. At CDK, new grads aren’t limited to working only on their own team, rather are welcome to explore other areas or departments that might interest them for their career path at the company for many years.
