Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
BD is passionate about investing in early career talent because its mission of Advancing the World of Health is impossible without prioritizing the next generation of BD associates’ capabilities and perspectives in the workforce. The crux of the work that is done at BD is aimed at offering patients cutting-edge and lifesaving technologies that are safe and effective. As BD continues to grow, the fresh eyes and ambition that intern and early career associates bring to BD are imperative in pioneering solutions for physicians, nurses, healthcare providers, and patients alike.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
BD’s Early Talent team has embraced a hybrid sourcing and recruiting approach to ensure all students feel welcome in the recruitment process. Recently, the BD team was back in full-force on campus with events at over 20 colleges and universities. In addition, a hybrid approach to recruitment has allowed BD to strengthen partnerships with the National Sales Network, SWE, and Out4Undergrad by attending virtual and in-person conference events. Additionally, BD was able to reach more students than ever through publicly posted, school-agnostic information sessions and knowledge shares. BD’s leadership development program associates hosted classroom visits and virtual externship opportunities for students interested in exploring future careers with BD to round out the offerings. BD remains committed to meeting candidates where they are and engaging with students in ways that are meaningful to them, while prioritizing safety of associates in an ever-changing pandemic environment.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Inclusion, diversity, and equity are not simply buzzwords at BD – they are tenets embedded into the mission of Advancing the World of Health. To ensure that patients can live healthily, BD's workforce must reflect the global population it serves, which is everyone. Early Talent is a key contributor in enacting this mission. BD’s wide-ranging university and national partnerships allow BD to support underrepresented talent not just by showing up at a career fair, but by offering meaningful professional development such as resume reviews, interview preparation, and personal brand-building. BD’s dozen plus Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) are vested partners in growing, developing, and mentoring early talent by volunteering their time to professional development opportunities and hosting mentorship programs. Early talent hires, including interns, are encouraged to get involved with the Associate Resource Groups upon start.
Impactful Internship Program
BD’s Early Talent team and company leadership understand the crucial role internships play in students’ careers and educational journeys. BD interns are selected in part because of the innovative approaches they take and perspectives they offer. As soon as interns join BD, they become a part of the team, immediately contributing to complex projects and solutions with immediate business needs. Often, the work contributions from interns continue after their departure because of the level of influence and impact they have on the organization. In addition to weekly events such as the Executive Speaker Series and Leadership Case Studies, students are able to see firsthand BD's life-changing products by visiting manufacturing sites and global distribution centers. In its commitment to centering the student experience, the Early Talent team innovates new events each year by implementing previous intern cohorts’ feedback.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
In a competitive hiring environment, retention and success of early career associates are of utmost importance. BD is proud to offer ten leadership development programs within its corporate and engineering functions to jumpstart entry-level associates on a path of success. Associates who join BD’s leadership development programs can expect challenging business critical rotations, professional development & networking opportunities, and direct connections and involvement with company leadership. At the onset of the leadership development program experience, associates are encouraged to complete a career blueprint that maps out their long- and short-term goals related to career. Based on information in the career blueprint, professional development and training opportunities supplemental to the rotations are offered by program leadership and the Early Talent team. BD’s leadership development programs also serve as a built-in network for associates that they can leverage during the transition from early career to mid-career.
