Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
Appian continued to optimize their virtual recruitment strategy to ensure their unique personalization was never lost along the way with candidates. This meant investing heavily in school-agnostic educational and networking opportunities to connect candidates with Appian recruiters and employees. The team planned 50+ recruiting events like a school-agnostic webinar that highlighted their commitment to inclusivity. Through partnering with their affinity group AppianPride, they led a discussion on DEI in the tech workplace and how to be an active ally. The team also launched an Interviewing at Appian blog series to transparently outline the steps and how to succeed throughout the process.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
Appian offered multiple touchpoints to engage with the recruiting team through office hours and 50+ virtual recruiting events. They designed final round interviews to include networking sessions and a series of presentations on departments, programs, and ways to get involved in the community. They created resources specific to a campus audience like a virtual office tour, benefits guides, and relocation resources. They set up an online store to order complimentary merchandise shipped directly to candidates. For candidates who received an offer, they hosted sessions on offer details and benefits, expectations around working from home, and networking time with new hires in their departments.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
In an effort to recruit and retain diverse talent, Appian partners with their affinity groups to ensure candidates see examples of DEI initiatives throughout the recruitment process. Appian has a first year forward program to engage with underclassmen and provide support, mentorship, and to grow an affinity with students who may consider Appian in the future. As part of the program, students learn about life as an Appian employee through an interactive day of technical and professional development workshops. Following the workshops, they are paired with a developer or technical consultant who serves as a professional mentor to guide them throughout the remainder of their collegiate journey.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Appian offered a hybrid program, allowing interns to experience the office safely in person while also supplying virtual opportunities to connect through avenues like a scavenger hunt, volunteer event, tie dye party, various happy hours, and departmental mentorship activities. They hosted an Explore HQ Day for interns to see everything the office has to offer in person. From personalized office tours, benefits deep dives, and a discussion with the CEO, Appian curated a robust look into a day in the life as a full-time employee. These experiences along with the intern committee, a group of full-time Appian employees who work to improve the program every year, make the program stand out.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
Appian sets up new hires for success starting from day one. All university hires are introduced to the company with a three-day new hire orientation that includes speeches by founders, peer activities, and more. Appian offers departmental mentorship programs, access to 3,000+ free online learning courses, presentation skills training and tuition reimbursement. Appian creates an inclusive community for new hires through their 8 employee-led affinity groups. These groups help employees build stronger internal and external networks, plan social, educational, and outreach activities, create development opportunities, and foster partnerships through inclusivity and aligning with their values.
