Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring

Appian believes that investing in early careers has a long-lasting impact not only for the organization, but for those individuals who chose to start their career at Appian. From its award-winning internship program to a standout candidate experience, Appian is constantly striving for a high-impact early careers program.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
Appian implemented a hybrid recruitment strategy to ensure its unique personalization was never lost along the way with candidates, no matter the venue. This meant investing heavily in school-agnostic educational and networking opportunities, as well as connecting directly with students on campus. The team attended and planned 110+ recruiting events, like a school-agnostic webinar that highlighted its commitment to inclusivity. Through partnering with the affinity group AppianPride, the team led a discussion on DEI in the tech workplace and how to be an active ally. Appian implemented the use of RippleMatch Sort & Automatch Technologies to connect with candidates outside of traditional recruiting channels.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
In an effort to recruit and retain diverse talent, Appian has a multi-pronged approach through schools, programs, and its affinity groups. First, Appian expanded its relationships at HBCUs as a part of its school strategy, investing both time and resources to increase opportunities to students. From a programmatic side, Appian is a 2022-2023 CodePath Internship Connection Program sponsor, which aims to support junior year Black, Latinx, and indigenous computer science students with the professional and technical skills they need to land their first internship. Additionally, Appian has a first year forward program to engage with underclassmen and provide support, mentorship, and to grow an affinity with students who may consider Appian in the future. Finally, Appian partners with its affinity groups to ensure candidates see examples of DEI initiatives throughout the recruitment process, as well as identify a community of like-minded individuals when they join Appian.
Impactful Internship Program
This past summer, Appian offered a hybrid program, allowing interns to experience the office in-person, while also supplying virtual opportunities to connect through avenues like an intern Olympics, volunteer event, various happy hours, Hackathon, and Appianite Panel Series. Appain hosted Intern Celebration Days for interns to see everything the office has to offer in person, as well as to highlight various affinity groups and social impact programs. This allowed remote interns to connect in person with fellow interns, tour the office, and spend quality time with their teams. Each day, Appian interns were a part of the current projects that full-time employees are working on. Appian interns walk away with tangible new skills and have a direct impact on the platform and clients for years to come. Appian’s investment in its intern program has led to both a strong net promoter score (93%) and conversion rate from intern to full-time employee (84%).
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Appian sets up new hires for success starting from day one, with growth as a central pillar to their Appian journey. All university hires are introduced to the company with a three-day new hire orientation that includes speeches by founders, peer activities, and more. Appian offers departmental mentorship programs, access to 3,000+ free online learning courses, presentation skills training, and tuition reimbursement. As its employees continue to grow and develop, Appian is there to support them — whether that’s helping them take on a new position in the business, or moving within their team. Appian creates an inclusive community for new hires through their 8 employee-led affinity groups. These groups help employees build stronger internal and external networks, plan social, educational, and outreach activities, create development opportunities, and foster partnerships through inclusivity and aligning with their values.
