Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

The University Recruiting & Relations team at Anthem is focused on participating in less transactional recruitment events like career fairs and more on high-touch, high-engagement recruitment events like Interview Workshops or Mental Health & Wellness Workshops. The team is also focused on being more engaged in the classroom and with students groups and orgs on campus. They also launched an Intern Campus Ambassador and Associate Campus Ambassador team to engage previous interns and current Anthem associates in campus recruitment by assisting with attendance at campus recruitment events and sharing content on LinkedIn. The team is also working on developing and sharing more engaging content on social media.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

The University Recruiting & Relations team at Anthem works hard to ensure all candidates have a positive recruitment experience when interviewing for a position. They host Virtual Interview Prep sessions that focus on how to nail your virtual interview, interview tips, and best practices. They invite students to attend and provide them with the opportunity to speak to recruiters and hiring managers about positions, what skills/qualities the team looks for, and how to successfully interview. In order to thank candidates for their time, the team also provides candidates with a link to the company pop-up shop so that they can order Anthem swag and goodies!

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

The University Recruiting & Relations team at Anthem is laser focused on diversity & inclusion hiring. They have partnered with WayUp, an early career job posting platform focused on D&I and employment branding. Through the partnership with WayUp, they hosted school-agnostic information sessions in order to connect with students and share information about Anthem and their opportunities. The team has also partnered with several D&I focused organizations to assist with sourcing minority and underrepresented students, including the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities. Anthem has also partnered with Jopwell to assist with building relationships with HBCUs/HSIs and student orgs on campus.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

At Anthem, interns participate in a 10-12 week immersive summer internship program that focuses on providing exposure to the healthcare industry, honing students' business acumen, providing real-life challenging works/projects, and connecting interns to senior and executive leaders. For the past two years, interns have worked 100% virtually while participating in a thoughtfully planned series of events and activities to drive engagement, networking, and learning. Interns also participate in a virtual community service/give-back game show, executive fireside chat, lunch & learns, campus to corporate sessions, and intern-planned and led social activities.
