The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Allstate Insurance Company was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
Inclusive Diversity & Equity is one of Allstate’s core values. While the company has earned external recognition for its commitment to inclusive diversity and equity over the years and continues to make progress, this journey is just beginning. Allstate is a signatory to the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion and in 2020, its commitment to expanding its inclusive diversity and equity investments is demonstrated by multiple initiatives, including co-founding One-Ten and a respective commitment to help hire 1M Black Americans in 10 years, and by launching the Allstate Apprentice program. Together, these investments and commitments will make a collective impact on inclusive diversity and equity at Allstate.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
The Campus Recruiting & Early Career team at Allstate Insurance Company goes above and beyond to connect with the next generation of talent both on and off campus. Adopting a hybrid approach to recruitment, the team crafted a diverse set of virtual events available to students at universities across the country, ranging from info sessions to workshops to industry panels. The team also planned strategic in-person events at a select group of colleges — such as HBCUs, HSIs, AAPIs and Women's Colleges — to provide students with valuable face-to-face interaction and deepen relationships. Once students enter the pipeline, the team at Allstate Insurance Company prioritizes candidate experience by offering interview info sessions including interview prep, diverse panels, and more.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
The Allstate Apprenticeship Program gives participants hands-on experience in a variety of departments, while they are enrolled in a two-year community college or technical school. In addition to the paycheck, individuals receive mentorship and the possibility of a full-time position at Allstate. The program is designed for individuals who are currently not in the workplace or wish to grow beyond their current situation by attending community college or technical school to develop their skills and grow a successful career. Allstate partners with One Million Degrees to provide specialized support when they join the company in the form of mentorship, professional development sessions, and more.
Impactful Internship Program
Through Allstate’s Internship Program, interns use their voice to add insight to the organization and gain hands-on experience. The 12-week internship exposes interns to projects that have an impact throughout the organization. Interns who are high-performers will have the opportunity to apply to return internships and/or full-time opportunities within Allstate. IInterns work in different departments across Allstate, including Technology, Data Science, Finance, and Investments.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Through Allstate’ Apprenticeship Program, participants will gain hands-on experience while enrolled in a two-year community college or technical school. During their 12-24 months at Allstate, apprentices earn and learn on the job, along with receiving career guidance and mentorship opportunities. Apprentices who are high-performers will have the opportunity to explore full-time opportunities within Allstate. Apprentices work in different departments across Allstate, including Human Resources and Technology. Apprenticeships provide individuals with high-quality career pathways while helping employers develop their workforce for the needs of tomorrow.
