The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Allstate was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Inclusive Diversity & Equity is one of Allstate’s core values. While the company has earned external recognition for their commitment to inclusive diversity and equity over the years and continue to make progress, this journey is just beginning. Allstate is a signatory to the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion and in 2020, their commitment to expanding their inclusive diversity and equity investments are demonstrated by multiple initiatives including co-founding One-Ten and their respective commitment to help hire 1M Black Americans in 10 years, launching the Allstate Apprentice program. Together, these investments and commitments will make a collective impact on inclusive diversity and equity at Allstate. Allstate recruits at Minority Serving Institutions including Historically Black College and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Asian American & Pacific Islander Institutions, Women’s College & Predominantly Black Institutions. The company retains underrepresented talent by providing each early career participant mentors, benefits like tuition assistance, and flexible work arrangements. Most employees are entirely home-based employees.
Impactful Internship Program
Allstate’s internship program provides early talent with meaningful opportunities that ensures interns have the chance to develop themselves both professionally and socially within a corporate environment. The program is centered around our “70/20/10 learning model” that guarantees a unique and dynamic internship experience. 70% of the program centers around an “on the job” experience, immersing interns in a team to complete meaningful projects. 20% of the program will consist of social learning, where interns are provided with networking opportunities, group projects and events, etc. to foster a collaborative mindset. Lastly, 10% of the program implements formal learning experiences, where interns can take courses, participate in mock interview and resume review sessions, etc. to equip them with essential skills that will prepare them for success.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
There are many ways Allstate invests in the retention and success of entry-level hires. First, their partnership with Guild brings a catalog of fully funded tuition for professional certificates in fields of study aligned to priority areas within the business and designed to give employees the skills needed to grow within the company. Second, team leaders receive a “connections” budget to bring their teams together. Managers have full autonomy over the funds and can use them to fly members to one city for social gatherings and team-building activities, do volunteer work, or even host online activities like building Legos. Last, access to virtual learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning to foster continuous learning.
