The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
ADM was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
ADM offers early careers for passionate people intent on solving the nutritional challenges of today and tomorrow. ADM believes food is fundamental, and that the company, as a global leader in nutrition, can make a lasting impact on the world. ADM offers the opportunity to contribute to something greater than oneself. ADM is a place where early talent can engage in meaningful work that makes a positive impact around the globe. It's more than just a job — it's an opportunity to connect with a higher purpose. Additionally, ADM is also aware that this generation has a passion for sustainability, which is one of the global commitments that it lives by every day. ADM knows that if it invests in this generation of talent, they will invest in ADM.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
ADM’s approach to early career hiring is just as rigorous as how it identifies and secures talent across the organization. ADM executes early career recruiting with a hybrid approach of classroom visits, career fairs, conferences, as well as virtual hiring events, social media campaigns, and campus champion referrals. ADM targets 2- and 4-year schools, HBCUs, and associations aligned to its business such as FFA, AFA, SWE, SHPE, and WITI, to name a few. The one characteristic that many students recognize about ADM’s approach is how accessible, compassionate, and hands-on it is. It is important to ADM that each student has a personalized experience and though they are being hired into a global organization of over 41,000 employees, they will have a unique and individualized experience.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
ADM believes in hiring students to build high-performance teams and that diversity is a critical component to achieving that goal. The company strives to offer an inclusive culture that promotes innovation and supports creativity by celebrating multiple perspectives. ADM ensures that every member of its workforce is given equal opportunities to develop their careers within the company, and can contribute their unique ways of thinking. All early career hires have opportunities to participate in ADM’s many ERGs, network with leadership, and help strategize ongoing efforts on their campus. Two year intern, Najia Khan Sherwani said, "When I selected where to intern, I wanted a company that prioritizes diversity. ADM has a true commitment to diversity and inclusion ... as I look at my peers and learned more about the company goals, culture and plans ... I see and feel the inclusion." ADM’s efforts in diversity were also recently recognized by the Financial Times.
Impactful Internship Program
ADM’s focus on creating an environment where people can do their best work, the importance of experiential learning, and its offerings in career development has helped the organization to be named as one of Fortune’s Most Admired Company List for 14 consecutive years. ADM’s summer internship program encompasses hands-on, relevant projects, mentoring sessions with the Young Professionals Resource Group, lunches with executive leadership, and opportunities to network with other interns nationwide. ADM’s program provides furnished housing for the summer and an on-site, three-day orientation to kick off the summer. Peter Pandey, a prior cybersecurity intern who converted to full-time employee, said the bonds he made with fellow interns was one of the most important things he took from his experience. “The experience was great, especially when you are doing something you are passionate about and when you are around individuals who want you to succeed,” said Pandey.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
ADM is committed to developing all of its early career colleagues and helping them maximize their career aspirations through both continuous learning and by providing unique experiences over and above their formal role. Every individual at ADM is required to have a development plan and discuss it with their manager on a quarterly basis. Through an internal mobility program, ADM encourages development of early careers based on their strengths and potential, with the possibility to move geographically, functionally, vertically, and laterally. ADM also provides a comprehensive and competitive total rewards program, including innovative programs and solutions to support one's health, and financial, professional, and personal needs. As an organization, a team, and as individuals, ADM never stops learning, growing, imagining, creating, researching, developing, innovating, solving, and supplying what the world needs.
