Summer Internship Program

The Verizon team proudly converted their internship program into a virtual format and successfully onboarded 365 interns in 2020. In anticipation of streamlining the distribution of important information and learning tools for an engaging virtual program, Verizon built an internal webpage and created targeted weekly content and learning opportunities to deliver to all interns. The result was a positive intern experience full of engagement and integration within the company, defined by 4 key elements: business and functional acumen, networking, learning and development, and engagement activities.

Virtual Recruitment

Verizon has been able to leverage technology such as custom events platforms, interactive quiz platforms, and a self video platform to make virtual engagement more exciting. One major tool their team utilized was Verizon’s new virtual event platform which created a custom company-branded environment that fostered open communication and social engagement. This platform enabled students to converse with leadership, explore facilities, and connect with team members for a look inside the Verizon culture.

Candidate Experience

Positive candidate experience remained a top priority, and Verizon supported students throughout the hiring process by providing resources like mock 1:1 virtual interviews, seminars on navigating a professional virtual environment, resume writing workshops, and more. Most of Verizon’s events this year, like Interview Super Days, were two-way conversations that allowed student job seekers to drive conversation topics to their area of interest.

Diversity and Inclusion

In 2020, Verizon remained dedicated to diversity in their entry-level roles and internships. This year, the V-team launched an Executive Engagement and Brand Ambassador Program where they aligned executive leaders, alumni, and Employee Resource Group members with 28 universities (including 11 HBCUs) in order to build a strong pipeline of diverse early career talent. In addition to strengthening connections with HBCUs, Verizon maintained relationships with national partner technology conferences like Grace Hopper, SHPE, SWE, Great Minds in STEM, and NSBE.

Congratulations to Verizon for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize Verizon in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
