Campus Forward Honoree - Travelers

Travelers employees are anchored to what they refer to as The Travelers Promise: a commitment of care towards their customers, their communities and each other. This serves as the company’s north star, and was extremely evident this year as the Traveler’s team kept their commitment to students, planned a virtual internship program for over 400 interns, and maintained an engaging recruiting experience all year long.

Read on for some of the highlights of Travelers' innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.

Summer Internship Program

Travelers made the decision in early April to pivot to a 100% virtual program and honor their commitment to 425 interns. The team kept their original 12-week program as preserving the initial timeline was important to ensure students still got as much out of their summers as they would any other year. Interns had the chance to sharpen their business acumen while learning skills in areas such as data visualizations and engineering, all while networking with both professionals within Travelers and their clients.

Virtual Recruitment

Travelers made several strategic investments in digital platforms during 2019. As a result, their team was able to seamlessly shift to the new normal presented by COVID-19 and minimize impacts felt by both their internal teams and candidates. One highlight of their recruiting strategy was when they joined forces with several other insurance companies to host a virtual summit on insurance careers where students were able to meet and hear from eight industry leaders.

Candidate Experience

The foundation of Travelers candidate experience is transparent communication, and this was never more evident than in the first quarter of 2020. Prior to coming to a decision regarding their internship going virtual, the team communicated openly and honestly with the incoming interns and new hires about where they stood in their decision making process. This meant setting clear timelines and sharing with them the potential scenarios that were under consideration. The Travelers team found that candidates were thankful for their clear, honest, and open approach.
