The SurveyMonkey team went above and beyond this year in creating a virtual internship experience and recruiting process. Through virtual events like game nights and company Hackathons, interns and applicants alike were immersed in SurveyMonkey’s engaging and educational company culture.
Read on for some of the highlights of SurveyMonkey's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Interns praise SurveyMonkey for its culture of inclusivity, transparency, and mentorship that runs through the company from the very top, down. That includes direct access for interns to the executive team: CEO Zander Lurie encourages students to message him on Slack to chat. This summer, the organization’s 42 interns got to both experience and contribute to that culture through weekly one-on-one check-ins with managers and mentors to receive feedback and tips on development, as well as a hackathon focused on social responsibility, where the top project implemented inclusive language into company surveys.
The SurveyMonkey team put on creative and engaging events to help candidates learn about their programs. One highlight included a software engineering internship info session that resulted in the team interacting with students from more than 60 schools. The event included information on the company and intern program, a panel discussion with SurveyMonkey interns, and an engaging trivia experience. This robust programming led to 100% of students walking away from the event feeling excited about the opportunity to join SurveyMonkey.
SurveyMonkey’s compiled an interview playbook for candidates to help them prepare for a virtual interview at SurveyMonkey and beyond. Some suggestions included testing internet speed and connectivity, and blocking 20 minutes prior to an interview to get in the right headspace. In addition to the playbook, the SurveyMonkey team let candidates know at the beginning of the interview that they were understanding of background noise or technical issues that might occur.
Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion is a top priority at SurveyMonkey, and is incorporated into the firm’s internship program. This year, the early career team attended conferences like SHPE and NSBE, partnered with programs like HireMilitary, and recruited at a number of HBCUs to reach more diverse talent. During the internship program, the team held events like an Imposter Syndrome Workshop and hosted virtual Employee Resource Meet-Ups.
Congratulations to SurveyMonkey for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize SurveyMonkey in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
