Campus Forward Honoree - Samsara

Samsara leveraged new platforms and engaging content to provide candidates with a seamless recruiting process and interns with a fulfilling experience. Some highlights include virtual events for candidates and interns with the Samsara CEO, and robust pre-interview education materials.

Summer Internship Program

Samsara kicked off their internship program by sending interns laptops, a “New Hire Kit,” as well as a stipend to help them curate a productive at home work environment. During the interns’ first week, the group went through a normal onboarding process which included an AMA with Samsara’s CEO. On the interns first day, Samsara hosted a program kickoff where the group took a deep dive into the intern program and went over social programming, important program dates, expectations from day 1 through final presentations, and more.

Virtual Recruitment

Communication was at the forefront of Samsara’s recruiting process this year. The team created a newsletter for candidates to learn more about Samsara and the internship program, shared a landing page with video introductions to different parts of the business, and sent out swag to all candidates with offers. The team hosted events like a Tech Talk with the company’s CTO, provided career guidance from the VP of People, and hosted sessions introducing folks to Samsara that dived into complexities like Data Science and Machine Learning.

Candidate Experience

The early career team helped create a positive candidate experience by scheduling extra time for questions at the end of technical interviews, providing interviews with an in-depth FAQ doc, and scheduling informational calls for previous interns to speak with candidates. In addition, the team shared blog posts about how current Samsara members chose to join the company and their experiences as an engineer to give students a better idea on what to expect.

Diversity and Inclusion

Samsara depends on the unique experiences and perspectives of all team members to help solve complex problems, ultimately being a more innovative and successful company. In UR specifically, Samsara utilized new platforms to reach candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds and no longer looks at schools or previous internships as a means to evaluate candidates. Additionally, this summer Samsara hosted a Juneteenth Day of Action, and Bi-Weekly Town Halls addressing current events and how the company is taking action.
