When COVID-19 upended traditional recruitment in the spring and summer, [Gallagher](https://www.ajg.com/) successfully shifted its internship program and recruitment strategy to virtual. Gallagher drew upon its existing relationships with universities, partnerships with national diversity organizations, and participation in talent development competitions to reach candidates of various backgrounds.

**Summer Internship Program**

With one month of preparation, Gallagher was able to successfully shift its [internship](https://ripplematch.com/journal/article/companies-that-put-on-awesome-remote-internships-62c7f37f/) to a virtual environment, across 30+ U.S. cities hosting interns. The virtual internship was a robust week-to-week opportunity for Gallagher sales interns to learn how to prospect, shadow full-time professionals, and execute challenges. Like previous years, interns worked directly with managers and mentors devoted to their development on deep-dive projects into the insurance industry.

**Virtual Recruitment**

Gallagher successfully executed virtual early talent recruitment by leveraging its brand awareness and relationships at universities. The company further diversified its virtual recruitment strategy by sourcing candidates through organizations like RippleMatch and executing alternative virtual events.

**Candidate Experience**

Candidate experience was pivotal to Gallgaher’s campus efforts. The company delivered high-energy virtual events that showcased its historical culture and learning opportunities for interns over the past four decades.

**Diversity and Inclusion**

[Gallagher](https://www.ajg.com/us/about-us/inclusion-diversity/) recruited at a variety of HBCU, HACU, and Women's Colleges nationwide. The company also partnered with a variety of National Diversity organizations and participated in numerous diversity competitions. One such competition, The [NAIAA’s National Talent Development Competition](https://www.naaia.org/calendar/2020/10/27/naaia-national-talent-development-competition), paired college students with industry-leading companies like Gallagher in order to work together and develop business solutions.
