CFA - Epic

This year, Epic was able to preserve their in-person internship experience for interns while also taking their fall recruitment strategy fully virtual for the first time. With a virtual strategy, they have been able to attend over 100 virtual career fairs and recruiting events this fall at dozens of universities, and participated in several national events focused on diversity.

Summer Internship Program

As Epic is an essential business, they were able to provide a safe and in-person internship experience in 2020 via state-of-the-art HVAC systems, individual offices for staff, mandatory mask-wearing in common areas, and plenty of room for social distancing. Epic was able to provide a hands-on experience for their interns that was similar in many ways to previous years – interns had the opportunity to experience Epic’s culture, build relationships with the team, and work closely with developers, culminating in interns presenting their final projects to senior software development leadership and the entire division in a virtual setting.

Virtual Recruitment

When Epic was forced to pivot their traditional strategy of visiting 100+ universities across the nation to a virtual one, the team knew it would be important to connect with students on a personalized and individual level. The Epic team continued their relationships with academic career centers, and also connected with student organizations virtually to answer questions and highlight how students’ unique perspectives would fit into Epic’s company culture. Additionally, Epic leveraged RippleMatch to reach students across the country they may not have otherwise had a chance to meet.

Candidate Experience

When it came to creating a positive candidate experience during virtual interviews, the team kept their philosophy of making sure the role was right for both parties. Each interview came with a full demo of Epic software and an in-depth overview of the job with a current employee. After the interview, Epic connected candidates with an alum from their school or an employee from a similar area of study to chat further about a career at Epic.

Diversity and Inclusion

Epic builds a pipeline of diverse talent by partnering with diverse student groups and participating in several national diversity events. These include the Society of Women Engineers National Conference, Out for Undergrad Engineering Conference, HBCU Career Marketplace, and Grace Hopper Career Fair. In 2020, Epic was also named as a Forbes 2020 Best Employer for Diversity.
