Read on for some of the highlights of Burns & McDonnell's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
The early career team at Burns & McDonnell successfully replanned their internship program in less than 30 days and brought the program online for their 300+ interns. Throughout the summer, the team offered virtual sessions connecting interns with recruiters, hosted coffee talks, and planned Q&As with Burns & McDonnell executives, including the CEO. Weekly events ensured interns were learning about Burns & McDonnell as a whole by being exposed to other parts of the company and gave them a better understanding of what life at the company is like.
Through thoughtful planning and communication, the Burns & McDonnell recruitment team attended 59 virtual career fairs and hosted 45 unique virtual presentations in partnership with student organizations. The recruitment team also hosted several virtual first-round interviews between Burns & McDonnell leadership and recommended students after attending career events and national diversity conferences.
For the interview process, the recruitment team went above and beyond to create a personal experience that was easy to navigate. Candidates received a personalized confirmation email containing their agenda for the day along with the names of individuals they would be speaking with. After most interviews, candidates received an individual live video call from their recruiter. Finally, Burns & McDonnell ensured that empathy was a major part of their candidate experience and reassured candidates not to stress about technical challenges and disruptions during virtual events.
Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion efforts are top priority for Burns & McDonnell. The recruiting team regularly sponsors and hosts presentations with diverse student and local organizations including the Society of Women Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers. In Fall 2020, Burns & McDonnell engaged with 27 unique student diversity organizations, and actively participated in their national conferences and career fairs, providing next-day interviews to promising candidates.
Congratulations to Burns & McDonnell for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize Burns & McDonnell in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
