Summer Internship Program

This summer, ALKU onboarded 188 interns to the company’s first virtual internship program. Training was completed online, and interns were all paired with a mentor.  In an effort to keep ALKU’s ‘Have Fun Working  Hard’ culture alive at home, the team implemented several virtual contests, including a weekly metrics contest and a weekly social media contest, with results communicated via Slack. ALKU interns were also invited to a company-wide virtual quarterly update meeting, an awesome opportunity for interns to learn more about the business. ALKU even sent each intern gifts and treats ahead of time to enjoy during the meeting!

Virtual Recruitment

ALKU quickly pivoted their recruiting process to adapt to a virtual setting, attending 168 events including virtual career fairs, guest speaking events, and sales competitions. Additionally, any student considered a “stand-out” at any given event was sent a swag package in the mail.  Another initiative implemented was ALKU Goes Virtual, an Instagram TV video series for college students and entry level professionals. The topics ranged from Elevator Pitch 101, to About ALKU, to Communicating with Employers, to a question-and-answer session with one of ALKU’s executives.

Candidate Experience

To create a positive candidate experience for student job seekers, ALKU starts from the moment recruiters meet a candidate. Any time a student shows interest in joining the  ALKrew, or submits an application, the team reaches out within 7 days. If a candidate moves forward, ALKU begins an extensive interview process. All candidates have a dedicated Internal Recruiter advocating for them, acting as a liaison and helping them navigate the virtual interview process.

Diversity and Inclusion

One of ALKU’s proudest initiatives this year is the creation of a Diversity and Inclusion Council. In September of 2020, ALKU purchased access to LEAD's Tip of the Iceberg: Racism, Mental Health Disparities & Cultural Competency e-course for 77 members of the company’s leadership team. The six-hour e-course, known as Tip of the Iceberg, was purchased to support anti-racist sentiment and allyship in ALKU's workplace. In addition to a six-week learning program for all leaders, ALKU opted to provide participants with mid and post-course virtual discussions with a LEAD instructor to further solidify learning.

Congratulations to ALKU for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize ALKU in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
